Five hospitalized in Fort Lauderdale boating accident

A boat rammed into a jetty off of Pompano Beach, injuring five people that were immediately rushed to the hospital, according to WSVN on June 12. This was seconds after three boaters were rescued from a capsized water vessel at Biscayne Bay due to an unrelated accident.

Onlooker Will Ferrigno immediately called 911, initiating the police rescue of the family of five. The family included three children that were all rescued after the crash. After noticing a man struggling to swim after receiving an injury to his shoulder, Ferrigno jumped into the water and swam the man to safety.

The boat accident is suspected to have been due to the driver’s misjudgment. The 32-foot boat careened into rocks at high speed, shocking and injuring the passengers. A 10-year-old on board was airlifted to Broward Health Medical Center while the other passengers followed via ambulance. The boat’s captain was initially in critical condition and has since stabilized. All victims are expected to make full recoveries.
