Earlier this summer, a Vero Beach resident died attempting to save a stranded boater near Fort Pierce Inlet State Park. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission report that alcohol was involved in this unfortunate accident.
Dominic Dragan, 20, was reportedly boating recklessly by steering his boat in circles and jumping his own wakes. During one of his attempted jumps, Dragan was thrown off his boat leaving the vehicle driverless. The boat continued to circle around Dragan at high speeds. Three men witnessed the incident from a nearby beach and began swimming to rescue Dragan. The unmanned boat then tragically ran over all three men. Cody Troska, 26, was announced dead at the scene while his two friends were taken to Lawnwood Medical Center for treatment.
Boating under the influence is a serious issue and when combined with reckless boat operation an accident is almost unavoidable. The thoughts of the attorneys at Schuler, Halvorson, Weisser, Zoeller & Overbeck, P.A. go out to the victim and his friends.
