1 Dead, 3 Critically Injured In Rollover Crash On State Road 60 West Of Vero Beach

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A 21-year-old Sebastian woman died and three other people were critically injured and flown to a hospital when a red sport utility vehicle overturned on State Road 60, a fire official said.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers reported the crash happened just west of Interstate 95.

Officials said all four people in the SUV in the crash were from Sebastian.

A 48-year-old man was driving the vehicle with three women passengers ages, 55, 21, and 18, according to officials.

Officials said the westbound SUV ran off the north side of the highway onto a grassy shoulder, and the driver overcorrected sending it into the opposite grassy median.

There it overcorrected again and overturned partially lying in the road and on the north side of the highway on its left side, according to the report.

Indian River County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Kyle Kofke said the four occupants were taken to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce.

Three helicopters were called in from surrounding counties to take three of the occupants, while one person was taken by ambulance to the hospital, Kofke said.

Florida Highway Patrol reported the fatality. Initially it was reported that all four were in critical condition at Lawnwood. Indian River County Sheriff’s Office officials stated on social media that the front passenger sustained a severe head injury and the two women in the rear seat of the SUV were thrown from the vehicle.

According to highway officials, neither the 21-year-old nor the 18-year-old in the back seat were wearing a safety belt, while both the driver and front passenger were wearing safety belts.

State troopers reported at one point all lanes of the highway were closed because of the crash.

The Florida Department of Transportation showed lanes were closed from County Road 512 to Blue Cypress Road, roughly 11 miles.

Comments:

Attorney Jason Weisser of Schuler, Halvorson, Weisser, Zoeller and Overbeck responded about the crash.  “Be especially careful when entering an intersection with many local business present.  If you were involved in an accident due to someone else being distracted, call me for a free consultation so we can discuss your rights and what compensation you may be entitled to.”
