1 Hospitalized, 1 Dead Following Crash
A 38-year-old man suffered major injuries after a crash on the Florida Turnpike that took the life of his passenger.
According to the authorities, one man is in critical but stable condition at the hospital and suffered from 3rd-degree burns. “He is intubated inside the burn unit of the hospital and will be heavily medicated for the next few days,” he said.
The accident happened in the westbound lanes just west of Palm Springs. He had stopped his vehicle in the left lane. It was rear-ended by a vehicle driven by a 19-year-old man, according to the FHP.
FHP Sergeant, Mark Wysocky, said the impact was so severe that it caused the vehicle to catch on fire and explode. The driver, who was critically injured, was pulled from the car by a man and another driver. The passenger died on scene.
“It’s not known why the vehicle had stopped on the highway,” said Wysocky. A man with minor injuries was reportedly treated at the hospital for minor injuries and released.
Doctors will be watching the other victim closely because of how susceptible he is to infections in this stage, according to the authorities.
Florida Highway Patrol and other emergency crews are conducting an investigation to find out the cause of the crash.
Attorney Jason Weisser of Schuler, Halvorson, Weisser, Zoeller and Overbeck responded to distracted driving. “In my many years as a Personal Injury Lawyer I’ve helped many victims that were injured because someone was distracted and crashed into their vehicles. If you’ve been injured by someone because they weren’t paying attention to the road, please call me so I can help you get compensation for your damages.”
