1 Person Killed In Crash Involving Train In St Lucie Blvd

ST LUCIE COUNTY — One person died after being struck by a southbound train in northern St. Lucie County, a St. Lucie County sheriff’s official said.

“One person died after a crash involving a train near St. Lucie Boulevard and Old Dixie Highway, according to the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office,” SLCSO Spokesman stated.

St. Lucie County Fire District crews went to the incident by Old Dixie Highway and Saint Lucie Boulevard, according to Brenda Stokes, St. Lucie County Fire District spokesperson.

The train tracks are just east of that intersection, which is north of downtown Fort Pierce in a largely residential area.

The southbound train struck a person, a sheriff’s official said. The name was not released, nor was any information about the person.

Yellow tape blocked off the area as sheriff’s officials walked the scene more than an hour after the incident. A neighborhood resident said he was pulling weeds at the time. He said he saw a short train passing.

“Wasn’t going very fast. Normally the horns knock you off your feet,” King said. “He just barely tapped the horn and then I heard all the brakes click on.”

He said sheriff’s officials and fire trucks then “piled up” in the area.

“I thought maybe … a guy working on the train might have fell in between the cars and got killed or maybe somebody was just laying on the tracks,” King said. “Who know? This is a weird area.”

A sheriff’s official said no roads were closed and that traffic wasn’t impacted.

No other information was available at the time of this report.

Attorney Jason Weisser of Schuler, Halvorson, Weisser, Zoeller and Overbeck responded to distracted driving.  “In my many years as a Personal Injury Lawyer I’ve helped many victims that were injured because someone was distracted and crashed into their vehicles.  If you’ve been injured by someone because they weren’t paying attention to the road, please call me so I can help you get compensation for your damages.”
