The victim was attempting to cross a Cooper City Street when the TLC vehicle plowed into him near the corner of NW101st Street, Florida Highway Patrol officials said.

“The car collided with the child and dragged him halfway down the street from 150th to 149th Street,” said a 31-year-old crossing guard who added that the boy did not have the light when he dashed into the street.

The crossing guard said, she was on the opposite side of the street when the children began crossing with the light, but added she ordered them to halt at the median separating the north and southbound lanes when it was clear the signal was about to change.

The victim, a sixth-grader at a Broward County Academy, may have been chasing a friend who darted across the southbound lanes when he was struck, police sources said.

The victim was rushed to Broward Hospital, where he currently remains in critical condition, officials said.

The driver of the cab remained on the scene, according to police. It was not immediately clear if he would be charged with a crime or issued a summons.
