18-Year-Old Dies Following Southern Boulevard Crash; Driver May Face Charges
LOXAHATCHEE GROVES — An 18-year-old from Loxahatchee Groves has died from injuries he sustained in a crash that saw the driver flee from the truck they were riding in after the wreck.
Paramedics took the victim to St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach with critical injuries following the wreck at Southern Boulevard and B Road in Loxahatchee Groves, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said. He died there a few days after.
Charges are pending against the driver of the 2008 Toyota Tacoma in which they were riding, PBSO said. He fled from the scene after the crash and was identified several days later. The Palm Beach Post is not naming him because he has not yet been charged with a crime.
The crash took place at midnight. The pickup was westbound on Southern when it swerved left and then right and then overturned, according to the PBSO report.
The truck came to rest on its roof with the victim upside-down, still wearing his seatbelt, according to the crash report.
The driver also suffered minor injuries in the wreck, PBSO said.
Attorney Jason Weisser of Schuler, Halvorson, Weisser, Zoeller and Overbeck responded to distracted driving. “In my many years as a Personal Injury Lawyer I’ve helped many victims that were injured because someone was distracted and crashed into their vehicles. If you’ve been injured by someone because they weren’t paying attention to the road, please call me so I can help you get compensation for your damages.”
