21-Year-Old Driver In Deadly Crash Hits Another Vehicle Few Minutes Later

WEST PALM BEACH – The man who authorities say raced through two red lights and struck and killed another motorist in suburban West Palm Beach a few months ago had run a stop sign and crashed into yet another driver, according to new charges.

A 21-year-old man of suburban Lake Worth Beach was charged with vehicular homicide and with driving without a license in a crash involving injury or death in a previous wreck that killed Michael DiBartolo, 28, of Palm Beach Gardens.

Authorities have said the 21-year-old was driving with a suspended license and is suspected of having been drunk at the time of the crash at Southern Boulevard and Pike Road. While authorities drew his blood, reports did not say the result of any test, and authorities had not filed any DUI related charges in that crash.

FHP authorities have once charged the 21-year-old with leaving the scene of a crash with damage.

According to a Palm Beach County sheriff’s report, investigators handling the Pike Road crash learned that a second crash had occurred in a neighborhood about 2 miles to the east, at Kumquat Road and Guava Avenue.

In that crash, the report says, the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer, which the 21-year-old was driving with only its parking lights on, ran a stop sign and struck a BMW 325i driven by a 34-year-old woman.

The woman told investigators that after the impact the 21-year-old rolled down his window and might have been laughing as he backed up and drove off. The report said, parts of the bumper and grille of the 21-year-old man SUV were found there.

The 21-year-old remained in the Palm Beach County Jail with his bail set at $50,000.
