35-Year-Old Man Rams Police Cruiser With Stolen Vehicle in Stuart
A 35-year-old man suffered injuries in a car crash involving a stolen vehicle and a police cruiser on Florida’s Turnpike close to Pratt Whitney Road, West Palm Beach.
Emergency services arrived on the scene after a car crash involving a stolen vehicle and a police squad car along Florida’s Turnpike, close to Pratt Whitney Road.
Authorities said a 35-year-old man allegedly stole a man’s wallet at an Ed’s Food and Deli Parking lot in Greenacres before stealing the man’s car. The suspect then drove the car northbound on Florida’s Turnpike, through Hobe Sound, and continued north.
The 35-year-old man traveled northbound on Florida’s Turnpike as deputies deployed tire deflation sticks to stop him in his tracks. Subsequently, the driver then lost control of the vehicle and crashed into an unmarked patrol car belonging to Detective Jason Fleming, which was parked near Pratt Whitney Road.
Both vehicles suffered substantial damage in the crash. Paramedics rushed Detective Fleming to St. Mary’s Medical Center due to serious injuries he sustained. Meanwhile, the driver of the stolen vehicle also sustained injuries in the crash, and paramedics transported him to the same hospital.
Medical staff later discharged the 35-year-old driver from the hospital; officers placed him in the Palm Beach County Jail. Authorities said the man will face myriad charges in Palm Beach County including attempted murder.
