Florida Highway Patrol and Police authorities are not sure exactly when the fatal wreck occurred on Interstate 95 near the Indrio Road.

St. Lucie County urged drivers to stay off the roads during and after the storm.

They suspect the 47-year-old, who wasn’t wearing a seat belt, drove onto the eastern shoulder of the road and hit another vehicle. The car rotated clockwise, hit a metal fence and overturned. While the other vehicle had a major scratch on the side it was hit. The 24-year-old driver was rush to a nearby hospital.

Florida Highway Patrol found the car on its roof submerged in the water.

It was unclear why he drove onto the shoulder of the Interstate or whether alcohol or drugs may have contributed to the wreck.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, according to Florida Highway Patrol. Anyone with additional information concerning what is asked to contact the Florida Highway Patrol Department.
