Bicyclist Has been Killed After Car Crash With Port St. Lucie Police Official

A 50-year-old bicyclist was killed in a crash with a Port St. Lucie police vehicle, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The Florida Highway Patrol and other investigating authorities said the cyclist, identified as Eric Stauber, was traveling northbound on the western sidewalk of SW Bayshore Boulevard approaching SW Swan Avenue.

A marked Port St. Lucie Police Department car driven by a 52-year-old officer was heading south on SW Bayshore Boulevard approaching SW Swan Avenue.

As the police vehicle, a 2007 Ford Crown Victoria, was traveling southbound, its right-side tires collided with the cyclist.

Stauber was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Florida Highway Patrol officials.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
