A poultry company in Illinois issued a recall of almost two million pounds of chicken products in the U.S. after some people fell ill with Salmonella Enteritidis (SE) bacteria, the Food Safety and Inspection Service reported on July 15.
Reports said Aspen Foods is recalling an estimated 1,978,680 lbs of chicken products after federal agencies in June were notified of three incidents of SE bacterial contamination in Minnesota. At least 19 brands of Aspen chicken products made from April to July were distributed nationwide. Consumers, mostly those with weak immune systems, are at high risk of suffering symptoms of salmonellosis, which includes fever, diarrhea, and stomach pain, from eating foods contaminated with SE bacteria.
