A Nebraska visitor, Larry Justice, died after being struck by a car 12th Street, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The death is Indian River County’s 23rd highway fatality so far this year, including five pedestrians, according to FHP reports. Last year, the county had 23 fatalities, including five pedestrians.
Sgt. Mark Wysocky, FHP spokesman, cautioned motorists about driving during the heavily traveled Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.
Larry Justice was crossing 12th Street, east of Old Dixie Highway, when he was hit by a BMW driven by Vero Beach resident Andrea Capas, 45, according to FHP.
At this time Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. It has been indicated that they are testing the blood-alcohol level of Mr. Justice to see if that was a contributor to this accident.
Justice was declared dead at at Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute, Fort Pierce. He was flown there after initially being taken to Indian River Medical Center, Vero Beach.
Attorney Jason Weisser of Shuler, Halvorson, Weisser, Zoeller and Overbeck responded to this unfortunate accident in Indian River County: “It is especially troublesome and sad when a person on foot is injured an accident. We hope that law enforcement can quickly determine the cause of the accident and who is responsible”.
