A bicyclist was fatally struck by a vehicle in Jupiter, Palm Beach County Fire Rescue authorities said.
The crash happened near the intersection of Indiantown Road and Central Boulevard. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The bicyclist was southbound on Central Blvd. He was trying to cross the intersection when he was struck by a vehicle that was headed eastbound on Indiantown, police said. The man was declared dead at the scene.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
The intersection, just east of Interstate 95, has long been one of the town’s busiest and most dangerous. In 2014, 75 collisions — about one every five days — took place at Indiantown Road and Central Blvd.
First emergency responders arrived at the site of the crash soon after the accident happened and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The car driver also sustained injuries in the crash. He was taken to a local hospital to be treated for injuries sustained in the crash.
Traffic was backed up to Interstate 95 on Indiantown Road in Jupiter following the bicycle crash in front of Green Turtle Plaza at the intersection of Central Boulevard and Indiantown Road. This is due to the severity of the crash.
Vehicles on this route are pulling to the roadside to allow crews work. It is best to use alternative routes. The best alternate route would be take Alternate A1A or I-95.
Please drive with caution and stay safe.
