A motorcyclist was critically injured and flown to a trauma center after a 3-vehicle crash on SE Indian Street in Stuart, according to officials.
The crash involved a motorcycle, a pickup truck, and a sports utility vehicle, said a Florida Highway Patrol spokesman.
A grey pickup was traveling south on U.S. 1 and turned east at Indian Street. A Lincoln traveling north on U.S. 1 crashed into the pickup, and the pickup spun around. The motorcycle, also traveling north, struck the pickup. First emergency responders arrived at the site of the crash soon after the accident happened.
Officials said the motorcycle rider, a man whose identity was not immediately available, was flown to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce in critical condition.
FHP spokesperson said an investigation into the cause of the crash is in progress.
The Ford pickup sat facing west at the intersection in the northbound lanes of U.S. 1 near the blue Lincoln, which appeared to have crashed into a large pole. A motorcycle was on its side just to the south.
Portions of U.S. 1 and Cove Road were closed after the incident, the Martin County Sheriff’s spokeswoman said.
Northbound traffic on U.S. 1 was diverted east onto Indian Street, while westbound traffic on Indian Street was blocked just east of U.S. 1, as FHP and Martin County Sheriff’s officials were at the scene. It is best to avoid this route and make use of an alternative route.
