A serious crash involving several vehicles on 10th Avenue and Congress Avenue has shut down commuting traffic in Palm Springs.
The wreckage was so severe that it left an engine and mangled metals in the middle of the road. The driver of one of the vehicles had to be extricated from the vehicle by emergency personnel using extricating tools. The driver was taken to a nearby hospital but his condition was not released.
Palm Springs Police on scene says a couple of children were involved in the crash. The children suffered various degrees of injuries –ranging from major to minor – and have been taken to St. Mary’s Hospital.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident and are working to clean up the accident scene. According to some witnesses, a vehicle crashed into several parked vehicles, causing a loud bang that could be heard in buildings and homes surrounding the crash.
10th Avenue North from Congress Avenue to around Rudolph Road will remain closed until authorities are able to clear the scene. Vehicles on this route are pulling to the roadside to allow crews work. Some are pulling into nearby side streets. The delay of traffic on this route is due to the severity of the crash. It is best to use an alternative route. Please drive with caution and stay safe.
