One man and two women were injured after their car went under a truck near the Griffin Road exit ramp of I-95 in Fort Lauderdale, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
A young man from Hialeah who was driving a Nissan Altima was exiting I-95 via the Griffin Road exit ramp when a truck pulled out in front of him, troopers said.
He could not stop and the car went under the truck, troopers said. They were trapped in the car as a result of the structural damage to the car. First emergency responders arrived soon after the crash happened and all the victims were extricated with tools and transported to the hospital. The driver was found unconscious by first emergency responders following an extensive head injury sustained as a result of the crash and he was flown to the hospital with a helicopter.
The two young women who were passengers in the Nissan Altima were seriously injured as well, according to troopers. They were transported to the hospital with an ambulance.
The truck was disabled but the driver of the truck was not hurt. The crash is under investigation. A number of emergency crews are on scene and are conducting traffic control as the route remains blocked. The FHP spokesman added that the road will reopen in the next few hours after the truck is towed and debris cleared. The victims’ names are yet to be released and further information is not available at this time.
