A tow truck hit a construction vehicle near the 10th Avenue North overpass on Interstate 95 leaving one injured.
The crash also snarled northbound traffic on the highway for hours and shut down all eastbound lanes on 10th Avenue North, authorities said.
Barbara Keller, a spokeswoman for the Florida Department of Transportation, said the tow truck’s front-end loader struck the construction vehicle on the overpass. This caused a structural damage to the construction vehicle and also damaged a road median, she said. Keller said the tow truck entered I-95 at the Lantana Road interchange, so the first overpass it came to was at 10th Avenue North where it crashed into a construction vehicle.
No other vehicles were involved but the construction vehicle’s driver suffered a concussion in the crash, according to Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Sgt. Mark Wysocky. He said the injured driver was transported to the hospital in critical condition.
After the crash, three northbound lanes on I-95 and eastbound lanes of 10th Avenue North were closed as inspectors and structural engineers looked over the damage to the median. Additionally, there was debris from the crash spread across the roadway.
Wysocky said the I-95 is partially closed. Northbound traffic was diverted at Lantana Road in Lantana and Sixth Avenue South in Lake Worth, according to authorities.
