A wrong way crash involving two vehicles on Kanner Highway near Pomeroy Street has injured two people in Martin County, a Martin County Fire Rescue chief said.
The accident involved a wrong – way driver on Kanner Highway. The driver, a resident of Stuart, was driving against the direction of traffic when he hit another vehicle, injuring two people in the process.
Martin County Fire Rescue transported both patients to Martin Hospital South, according to Emergency Management Division Chief Dan Wouters. The crash was reported by eyewitnesses at the scene.
Traffic on northbound Kanner Highway was jammed for more than half an hour. This was because Fire Rescue workers treated patients on the side of the road, causing a massive pile-up of traffic.
The driver at fault, who was driving the wrong way on the highway, was taken to an area hospital. He had non-life threatening injuries. Authorities say alcohol is suspected to be involved and the contributing cause of the crash.
Details about the cause of the crash were not immediately available. This story will be updated as new information is released.
