An Indian River driver struck a school bus with eight Indian River Academy students aboard, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The accident happened on Oslo Road near Old Dixie Highway, the Sheriff’s Office said. The driver of a red Hyundai was traveling east on Oslo Road when he attempted to cut in front of the bus as it was about to make a left turn onto Old Dixie, the report states.
The Hyundai struck the front passenger side of the bus, witnesses told deputies. After the collision, the Hyundai drove south on Old Dixie and did not stop, witnesses said. The Indian River Academy students were injured in the accident, Indian River County School District spokeswoman Cristen McMillian said.
First emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the accident. As deputies were investigating the crash, a relative of the Hyundai driver showed up and identified the driver, the report states.
The 24-year-old driver of Vero Beach was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with injuries and property damage and driving while his license was revoked. His license had been suspended or revoked four previous times, the Sheriff’s Office said.
