A crash involving two vehicles in Lake Worth has left two school children hospitalized. The crash has also caused traffic to back up in Lake Worth, the Police Department said.
According to police, the accident happened when a woman who was driving a Mercedes on 10th Avenue North tried to make an illegal U-turn and pulled in front of a southbound Chevy Impala.
The cars collided because the driver of the Impala was unable to stop, police said. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage.
Police confirmed that a 7-year-old girl and 9-year-old boy were injured in the crash. Prior to the accident, the children were en route to school in the Mercedes that was driven by their mother. First emergency responders arrived shortly after the crash, and the victims were transported to the hospital for treatment.
Both children were sent to the trauma center with serious injuries, officials revealed. No other occupants were injured in the crash, police said. Officers cited the woman who was driving the Mercedes, for failure to yield right of way.
Police stated that the accident is still under investigation. This route is partially blocked due to the severity of the crash, causing traffic delays.
Accident attorney Jason Weisser of Schuler, Halvorson, Weisser, Zoeller and Overbeck responded to this unfortunate crash: “We are deeply saddened to learn that children were injured as a result of this accident.
