A fatal accident on I-95 southbound and Belvedere Road has led to the death of a pedestrian and forced all lanes to close, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
According to the crash report, the fatal accident involved a motorcycle. The motorcyclist driving a 2002 Kawasaki traveling southbound on I-95 near Belvedere Road hit and killed a pedestrian waiting to cross the road. The pedestrian died immediately and was confirmed dead at the scene of the accident.
First emergency responders arrived at the scene of the accident shortly after the accident happened. The motorcyclist was transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center with critical injuries. The names of those involved in the crash have yet to be released.
Officials shut down all southbound lanes when they arrived at the scene and diverted traffic off the highway at the Okeechobee Blvd. exit. The lanes were not reopened for several hours.
