Trooper Hospitalized After Being Hit By Car, FHP Says
A Lake Worth man crashed into the patrol car of a state trooper who was stopped at a red light. The accident sent the trooper to the hospital with critical injuries, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The accident happened when a 19-year-old driver was driving east on Lantana Road and trying to make a left turn to get on Interstate 95. The teenager, driving a 2016 Volkswagen Jetta, made too wide a turn and crashed into the front of a patrol car that was in the westbound lanes of Lantana Road at the I-95 traffic signal, according to FHP Sgt. Mark Wysocky.
The injured trooper was taken to a hospital by another trooper and was treated for critical injuries, Wysocky said.
The 2017 Dodge Charger the trooper was driving appeared to have significant front-end damage, the crash report showed.
The teenage driver was also treated at a hospital for minor injuries and, after being medically cleared, was arrested on charges of possessing drugs and drug paraphernalia, Wysocky said.
Blood test results are pending to determine if he will face charges related to driving under the influence, according to Wysocky.
