A man died in a crash in suburban West Palm Beach after a speeding driver who ran the traffic light crashed into his vehicle, troopers say.
Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) says a 23-year-old man was traveling southbound on N. Military Trail at a high rate of speed. While he was approaching the intersection of Lakeside Green and Shenandoah Drive, FHP says he ran the red traffic signal and entered the intersection, striking the side of a 2017 Hyundai vehicle driven by a 27-year old man. Both vehicles came to a halt off the southwest corner of the intersection. He suffered major injuries.
First emergency responders arrived at the scene near West Palm Beach shortly after the crash happened.
The Hyundai driver was found trapped in the vehicle. The trapped victim was extricated using Jaws of Life. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. According to Florida Highway Patrol, he was not wearing a seat belt prior to the accident.
Troopers are investigating the cause of the crash.
