A 45-year-old bicyclist identified as Karriem Davey was killed while riding his bike near SW Rosser Boulevard and SW Open View Drive, Port St. Lucie police said.
The crash that killed Karriem Davey happened when a 2013 gray Honda, driven by 22-year-old Port St. Lucie resident was traveling north on Rosser Boulevard, according to police. As he was traveling north, he went into the southbound lane and passed the car in front of him. After returning back into the northbound lane, he hit bicyclist Karriem Davey, of Port St. Lucie, who was also traveling north on Rosser.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the impact ejected Karriem Davey from the bicycle and caused him to hit the front windshield of the car.
An off-duty St. Lucie County Firefighter, Dominick Mattino, performed CPR on Karriem Davey until St. Lucie County Fire Rescue arrived on scene, according to police.
First emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the crash happened. Karriem Davey was transported to a regional medical center, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Karriem Davey’s friends and family have described him as a kind and loving man. “Karriem will be sorely missed,” a relative added.
Port St. Lucie Police Traffic Homicide Investigators are currently investigating the crash.
