Walter Sullivan Suffers Critical Injuries After U.S. 1 Accident
A traumatic accident involving a vehicle and a three-wheel motorcycle sent Walter Sullivan to the hospital and shut down southbound lanes on U.S. 1 for several hours.
The crash happened in the 13000 block of U.S. 1, just south of Roseland Road, in north Indian River County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Walter Sullivan was traveling on his 2015 Harley Davidson trike motorcycle in the right lane on southbound U.S. 1 ahead of a 2010 Kia Soul driven by a 27-year-old woman of Sebastian. Constance Sullivan, 55, of Huntsburg, Ohio, was in the trike passenger seat.
When Walter Sullivan, 53, also of Huntsburg, Ohio, attempted to make a right turn onto Donna Lane, heading into the Shady Rest Mobile Home Park, the woman failed to slow down behind him. As Walter Sullivan began turning, she rear-ended the trike, according to FHP.
The trike overturned on its side, causing Sullivan to fall into the roadway on Donna Lane between U.S. 1 and Rich Henry Road.
Walter Sullivan was transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne in critical condition, said Cory Richter, assistant chief of Indian River County Fire Rescue. Walter Sullivan was not wearing a helmet, according to FHP.
The woman was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. Constance Sullivan was not transported, according to FHP.
