A pedestrian identified as 49-year-old Bryan Coley was killed in an accident on U.S. 1, according to Stuart police.
Bryan K. Coley, a Naples resident, was pronounced dead after the incident in the 1900 block of Northwest U.S. 1, according to Sgt. Brian Bossio, Stuart police spokesman. The location of the crash was north of the Roosevelt Bridge by LA Fitness.
Police were immediately called to the scene after the accident, Bossio said. The rescue crew identified the pedestrian who died after the Stuart crash as Naples resident Bryan Coley.
The crash report stated that the crash happened as a blue Dodge Avenger traveled south on U.S. 1, where the speed limit is 45 mph, Bossio said. The vehicle struck Coley, who died at the scene. Bossio said the Dodge, which carried three people, stopped. Bossio said there were no indications of impairment for the driver. No one was injured in the vehicle.
Bossio said Coley was not crossing in a designated area. Investigators do not know whether he was crossing from east to west or west to east. Police also do not know where Coley was going to or coming from.
No charges have been filed against the driver, Bossio said. This story will be updated if more information is released from law enforcement.
