A fatal crash in Martin County claimed the life of a 15 year old girl from Stuart.
The crash occurred just east of Locks Road when a speeding Ford Sedan, veered off the road at a dangerous bend.
The spokesman for the Florida Highway Patrol says the 21 year old driver of the vehicle lost traction at a point in the bend and went off Wildcat Trail just east of Locks Road.
The vehicle continued off road until it was brought to a stop by a large tree located a couple of feet from the road. The car crashed into the tree, killing the 15 year old passenger who was riding beside the driver.
A 10 year old girl who was also in the vehicle when the accident occurred was rushed to Martin Memorial South to be treated for minor injuries. The driver of the car was taken to Martin Memorial South with minor injuries.
Although it’s not clear whether the occupants of the car were wearing seat belts, the Florida Highway Patrol is conducting their investigation into the cause of the crash.
Emergency first responders where on scene to attend to the injured passengers.
