A mother of two was involved in an accident on US Route 192, Space Coast Parkway.
Authorities say the mother was driving a Chevrolet Sedan when she ran over a bicycle in the westbound lane of US Route 192 causing her to lose control of the vehicle.
It was reported that the bicycle fell from the tail gate of a Dodge truck.
The Chevrolet skidded off road, finally coming to rest against a tree located about 24 feet from the right shoulder of the road.
The mother of two suffered severe head trauma and was taken to the nearest hospital for treatment. Her two sons, who were also passengers in the Chevrolet, only suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene.
FHP officers believe the children’s injuries were minor because they were located on the right side of the vehicle away from the initial impact and they had their seat belts on.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the driver of the Dodge claimed he did not realize a bike had fallen off of the truck.
The Florida Highway Patrol is conducting an investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.
