Two vehicles were badly wrecked when a car ran into a tow truck in a chain reaction crash on Southern Boulevard in Royal Palm Beach.

According to the spokesman for the Florida Highway Patrol, a car was about to be loaded onto the flat bed of a tow truck along the eastbound lane of Southern Boulevard as a black Honda CRV sped towards the vehicle, lost control, and slammed into the side of the tow truck. The impact caused the Honda to ricochet towards the inner lane of the road resting on its side.

Another vehicle, a blue Ford Sedan which was also approaching from the eastbound lane, screeched for some seconds before colliding with the Honda, pushing it further down the road.

Skid marks could be seen on the asphalt at the scene of the accident, as paramedics struggled to save the crash survivors. The driver of the Ford Sedan was not hurt in the crash, but the driver in the Honda sustained severe head trauma and had to be rushed to the nearest hospital for treatment.

A police officer who was attending to the tow truck was just able to get out of the way seconds before impact.

Emergency services were seen clearing the wreckage to ensure a free flow of traffic on the debris ridden lanes.
