Two vehicles were engulfed in flames after a violent car crash along PGA Boulevard in Palm Beach Gardens.
The accident which happened at night, left two men with serious burns and other injuries. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash involved a Volkswagen Passat and a Toyota Avensis. The driver of the Volkswagen Passat was on the eastbound lane of PGA Boulevard when he swerved into the westbound lane, facing oncoming traffic.
He then collided with the Toyota Avensis which was approaching from the westbound lane. The two cars collided violently causing them to burst into flames.
The driver of the Passat had minimal burns and was taken to the hospital for treatment. Rescue personnel took a while to evacuate the other driver from the Avensis which was on fire and terribly mangled.
The Police are investigating the state of the Passat driver before the crash to determine why he switched lanes. The spokesperson for the FHP said they would provide more information when thorough investigation has been completed.
The westbound lanes of PGA Boulevard were closed for some hours as Emergency Services struggled to clear the wreckage.
