Two Sustain Serious Injuries From Chain Reaction Crash On West Atlantic Avenue
A 63 year old man was seriously injured in a chain reaction crash involving a DUI on West Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a crash involving a man who was under the influence of a recreational drug while traveling along West Atlantic Avenue. The DUI driver was behind the wheels of a Ford Mustang on the eastbound lane when he crashed into a Toyota hatchback which was traveling in the westbound lane of West Atlantic Avenue.
According to Police reports, the Mustang did not stop after the first collision, but crashed into a second vehicle before coming to rest on the right shoulder of the road.
Emergency services spent hours trying to evacuate the 63 year old driver. The Toyota hatchback was badly damaged in the crash. Witnesses say they had to cut through metal to get to the injured victim.
A woman in the Toyota sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a local hospital. The driver of the Mustang only sustained minor injuries in the crash. The driver in the third vehicle was not injured.
