Four people were seriously injured in a multiple vehicle crash on Broadway Avenue in Jacksonville.

Police say four people were rushed to the hospital after a car crash involving three cars shutdown part of Broadway Avenue for a few hours.

The accident, which happened close to the intersection of Broadway Avenue and West 13th Street, left a pile of debris on the road which took hours for emergency services to clear.

A blue pickup truck was approaching the intersection along the southbound lane of Broadway Avenue when he swerved into the northbound lane to avoid a rear end collision with a tractor trailer. He then side swiped a Ford Focus that was approaching on the northbound lane of Broadway Avenue.

The Ford Focus was turned sideways by the impact. While it skidded to the shoulder of the road it was T-boned by a Toyota Camry that was also on the northbound lane.

Two women in the Ford Focus sustained critical injuries and were rushed to the hospital in an ambulance. The third passenger in the Ford Focus, a 13 year old girl, was knocked unconscious due to the crash. She later regained consciousness in the ambulance on her way to the hospital.

The driver of the Toyota Camry was also injured in the crash and taken to the hospital for treatment.

The pickup truck driver who only sustained some bruises was tested for alcohol levels. Police say the results came back negative.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash. It is not yet clear if anyone will be pressing charges.
