A man was killed and others sustain injuries in a multiple vehicle crash on Florida’s Turnpike in Port St Lucie.
The eastbound lane of Florida’s Turnpike was closed for several hours after a multiple car collision in Port St Lucie.
Four vehicles were involved in the crash which led to the death of a 53 year old man from Fort Lauderdale. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the man was driving a Peugeot Station Wagon along Florida’s Turnpike when a black GMC Yukon brushed the side of his vehicle twice.
The second impact sent his car spinning into the second lane where a white 2002 BMW 5 Series crashed into the side of his car. A Mazda Sedan which was following closely behind the white BMW rear ended the car before coming to rest right in the middle of the busy road.
According to other motorists, who were not too far off on the same road when the accident happened, the driver of the GMC Yukon was changing lanes dangerously for a while before brushing his car against the Station Wagon.
Police say the 53 year old man died in the crash from internal injuries shortly after paramedics arrived. The driver of the BMW and his front seat passenger sustained serious injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment.
The driver of the Mazda also sustained injuries from the crash and was treated on the scene. Police have taken the driver of the GMC into custody for questioning as they continue their investigation into the cause of the crash.
