A 23 year old mother suffered serious burn injuries in a fiery crash along Linton Boulevard in Delray Beach.
According to the police, a young mother and her 10 year old boy suffered serious injuries in a fiery crash after a head on collision. The 23 year old mother was driving a Toyota minivan on the eastbound lane of Linton Boulevard when they collided with a Ford SUV which was driving against incoming traffic on the eastbound lane.
The minivan was in flames due to the impact of the crash. The 23 year old mother was unconscious while her 10 year old son, who was the passenger in the front seat, was incapacitated due to injuries suffered from the crash.
Motorists came to her rescue by pulling both mother and child out of the burning vehicle, but they had already suffered some burn injuries.
The 23 year old mother suffered multiple burns and head trauma. She was rushed to the hospital with her son who suffered mild burns and a few fractures. The driver of the Ford SUV suffered multiple injuries from the accident and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Emergency first responders were on the scene to attend to the injured. The fire service arrived in time to keep the flames from spreading.
It is still unclear why the wrong-way driver was driving against oncoming traffic. An investigation into the crash is being handled by the Florida Highway Patrol.
