A 40 year old man was struck by a car while rendering assistance to an injured driver on the busy U.S. Route 95 highway in Fort Pierce.
Emergency first responders were on scene after an accident on the southbound lane of U.S. Route 95. A 40 year old man was driving in the southbound lane when he parked on the side of the road to render assistance to a blue Chevrolet sedan which had crashed against a street lamp.
He was standing on the left side of the car trying to check the state of the injured driver when a Toyota Highlander lost control and rammed into him, pinning him against the damaged vehicle.
Emergency services were able to evacuate the 40 year old man but he was seriously injured, sustaining multiple fractures and internal bleeding from the impact. He was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance and is said to be in a stable condition at the moment.
The driver of the Toyota highlander sustained minor injuries in the crash and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Paramedics were able to save the injured driver of the blue Chevrolet. He is in a stable condition at the moment. There is no information on why the Highlander drifted off its lane. Investigations are being conducted by the FHP to determine the cause of the crash.
