Two people were fatally injured when two vehicles collided on the northbound lane of Royal Palm Beach Boulevard.
Emergency first responders were at the scene of an accident which happened close to the Mobil filling station on Royal Palm Beach Boulevard. The crash occurred when a Kia Optima rear ended a Volvo Sedan which was also in the northbound lane.
Authorities did not release any information on what caused the crash, but officers of the FHP were present on the scene. The 30 year old driver of the Kia Optima was severely injured in the crash. She broke several fingers and suffered head trauma and was rushed to a nearby hospital. Her front seat passenger suffered minor injuries and was treated on the scene.
The driver of the Volvo Sedan was also taken to the hospital due to neck injuries sustained in the crash. Both vehicles were badly damaged and had to be towed from the crash scene.
Police say substance abuse may be a factor, but investigations are still ongoing.
The northbound lane of the road was closed due to the wreck and was later reopened after two hours by the Florida Highway Patrol.
Please drive carefully and pay attention to traffic signals on the highway.
