A 43 year old mother of three was severely injured after crashing into a tree along Highway 98 in Wellington.
Authorities say the 43 year old mother was driving a Toyota Prius along Highway 98 when the vehicle directly ahead of hers, a blue Chevrolet Silverado, made a sudden stop without warning. She immediately swerved to avoid a rear end collision with the Chevrolet Silverado, but lost control of her vehicle in the process.
The Toyota Prius continued off the road and slammed into a tree head on. The 43 year old mother sustained severe injuries in the crash and had to be transported to a hospital.
Police say the driver of the Chevrolet Silverado admitted to making a sudden stop, but he claimed that he saw an alligator crossing the road and had to stop to avoid running it over.
Three children were in the Prius with their mother when the accident happened. Two of the children were not hurt in the crash. The third child, who was in riding in the front seat, sustained minor injuries when the airbag deployed and was taken to the nearest hospital for treatment.
Emergency services were able to evacuate all passengers from the wrecked vehicle. Officers of the Florida Highway Patrol were also on the scene to conduct investigations into the crash.
