Three people suffered serious injuries after a rear-end collision at the intersection of West Indiantown Road and Military Trail in Jupiter.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the fatal crash occurred close to a Burger King. The driver of a Hyundai Accent was waiting at a stop sign on the eastbound lane of West Indiantown Road when a Toyota Fortuner approached the vehicle at a high speed along the same lane. Subsequently, the Fortuner crashed into the Accent from behind, propelling the Hyundai into the middle of the intersection.
Then, a Nissan Truck, which was approaching the intersection from the northbound lane of Military Trail, t-boned the Hyundai Accent on the left side, causing significant damage to both vehicles.
Consequently, the Hyundai driver suffered fatal injuries in the crash; he sustained multiple fractures including a neck injury. Emergency crews transported him to the hospital via ambulance. Additionally, a front seat passenger in the Hyundai also sustained injuries. Thus, EMS transported the passenger to the nearest hospital.
The driver of the Nissan Truck suffered head trauma in the crash. When paramedics arrived on the scene they said he was in critical condition. Police said he was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision.
Meanwhile, the 34-year-old driver of the Toyota Fortuner survived with minor injuries. Paramedics treated him on the scene, and police detained him for questioning. It is not yet clear if any charges will be filed, but substance abuse is being considered as a probable cause of the accident.
The Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash.
