21-Year-Old Man Hospitalized As Tractor Trailer Collides With Motorcycle
A 21-year-old man was sent to the hospital with serious injuries after a motorcycle collided with a tractor trailer on State Road 60 in Vero Beach.
A crash involving a motorcycle and a tractor trailer caused gridlock on State Road 60. Officers of the Florida Highway Patrol placed a barricade to close one of the westbound lanes. Emergency services were on ground to attend to the injured victims and clear the wreckage from the debris ridden section of the highway.
Authorities say the accident occurred when a motorcycle, which was traveling in the westbound lane of State Road 60, made an attempt to pass a tractor trailer that was on the inside lane. The driver of the truck swerved into the outside lane unexpectedly, sideswiping the motorcycle.
According to an eyewitness, the driver of the truck seemed oblivious of the motorcycle in the moments leading up to the crash.
The 21-year-old motorcycle rider was severely injured in the crash. He sustained multiple fractures and was rushed to the hospital. He is said to be in a critical condition at the moment.
The driver of the truck was not hurt in the crash. Police say he did not appear impaired when he was interrogated. The Florida Highway Patrol are conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
