Police said a 52-year-old man collided against a guardrail in a fatal crash on Interstate 95, in West Palm Beach.
A 52-year-old driver was involved in a fatal crash after his car rammed against the guardrail along Interstate 95. The Florida Highway Patrol said they received a complaint regarding a driver who was weaving through lanes dangerously along the northbound carriage of I-95. A couple of minutes later, a crash was reported.
The crash occurred when the 52-year-old driver of a Renault Megane traveled on the northbound lane of Route I-95 and decided to switch lanes abruptly.
A blue Toyota Corolla traveled on the inside lane beside him when he made the switch. Subsequently, the Corolla driver was caught off-guard and swerved to avoid the collision, side-swiping a Citroen Sedan in the process. The impact sent the Citroen into the right shoulder of the road, but he was able to regain control of his vehicle before coming to a rest.
The driver of the Renault Megane continued in his trajectory, weaving through cars until he attempted to cut in front of a Ford Taurus. Then, the Renault Megane crashed into the side of the Taurus and lost control, skidding towards the right shoulder of the road and into a guardrail. The impact of the crash totaled the hood of the car and left the driver with fatal injuries.
The Taurus, however, suffered minimal damage in the crash. No one else was hurt except the driver of the Citroen who complained of pains in his neck.
The driver of the Renault Megane is being investigated for substance abuse; police found traces of heroin in his bloodstream. The FHP is in charge of the investigation into the crash.
