The driver of a Chevrolet Colorado truck allegedly involved in a DUI crash along West Midway Road in Port St. Lucie, police said.
A Chevrolet Colorado truck was traveling westbound on Port St. Lucie when it approached an intersection at high speed without observing a red light. Subsequently, the Chevy driver sped through the intersection and struck a beige Skoda Octavia; the Skoda approached the intersection from the southbound lane of Selvitz Road.
The impact of the collision sent the Skoda Octavia spinning toward the northwest segment of the intersection where it came to rest against a signal pole. Consequently, two passengers in the Skoda sustained injuries. The Skoda driver suffered multiple injuries and paramedics rushed the driver to the hospital in an ambulance.
A front seat passenger in the Skoda sustained minor injuries; paramedics transported the passenger to the hospital for treatment.
Upon arrival, paramedics found the driver of the Chevrolet truck in critical condition due to head injuries suffered in the crash. Police said he was not wearing a seat belt before the crash; when paramedics arrived, the driver’s head stuck in the windshield.
”He had pieces of glass stuck in his head, it was a horrible sight,” said a passerby who stopped to help out when he saw the wreck.
Meanwhile, police tested the truck driver for alcohol levels, and a spokesperson for the Florida Highway Patrol said the test results came back positive; the spokesperson added that all charges will be filed against the truck driver in earnest.
Emergency services cleared the debris from the wreck.
