According to police, a female driver sustained serious injuries after a car struck her in the middle of a tire change along Highway A1A, Jupiter.
The southbound lane of Highway A1A was littered with debris and emergency vehicles after a fatal crash in Jupiter. The crash occurred when a car struck a woman from Martin County while she attempted to change a faulty tire on the right shoulder of the road along southbound Highway A1A.
Authorities said the woman was heading south on Highway A1A in a Seat Leon hatchback when she had a tire blowout. She was able to steer her vehicle toward the right shoulder of the road in order to change the damaged tire. A 2005 Hyundai Tucson was approaching on the southbound carriage when it left its lane and crashed into the Seat hatchback.
Unfortunately, the driver of the hatchback could not get out of the way before the impact; thus, the speeding Hyundai hit the woman.
Consequently, the woman sustained critical injuries in the crash, and paramedics rushed her to the hospital in a fragile state. Paramedics on the scene said she had a thin chance of survival, judging from the extreme nature of her injuries. The woman has purportedly undergone several surgeries and is presently in a fairly stable condition.
Meanwhile, the Hyundai driver sustained minor injuries in the crash, and paramedics treated him at the scene. Police are investigating the state of the Hyundai driver before the accident in order to determine the cause of the crash.
Authorities will release additional information as investigations progress.
