The driver of a tow truck was involved in a rear end collision with an 18-wheeler along U.S. Highway 1 in Vero Beach.
Emergency services were at the scene of an accident involving a tow truck and an 18 wheeler in the northbound lane of U.S. Highway 1 in Vero Beach.
According to authorities, a tow truck was traveling northbound on U.S. Highway 1 with an 18-wheeler ahead of it on the same lane. The 18-wheeler made a sudden stop which caught the driver of the tow truck off guard. The truck slammed hard into the rear of the 18-wheeler, sustaining a heavy damage in the process.
A front seat passenger in the tow truck was trapped in the wreck after the crash. He was stuck for an hour before firemen were able to evacuated him from the truck. He had multiple fractures and was put in an ambulance for transport to the hospital.
The driver of the tow truck sustained a head injury in the crash. He was taken to the ER for surgery and remains in a critical condition in the hospital.The driver of the 18-wheeler was not hurt in the crash.
No charges have been filed yet. The Florida’s Highway Patrol is handling the investigation into the crash.
