A car had a rear-end collision with a truck loaded with glass panes on Southwest Kanner Highway in Stuart.
A rear-end collision left one person injured in Stuart. The accident involved a Hyundai and a Ford truck which was loaded with glass panes in its cargo bed.
Emergency first responders had their hands full with the mix of glass pieces and metal debris on the southbound lane of Southwest Kanner Highway due to the crash.
A Ford truck was traveling southbound on Southwest Kanner Highway when it applied its brakes suddenly, spilling out the contents of its cargo bed. A red Hyundai, that was following the truck closely, tried to avoid colliding with the truck. The Hyundai got caught in the crossfire of falling glass panels as they were propelled into the windshield of the car.
The Hyundai continued in its trajectory until it rear-ended the Ford truck, causing excessive damage to both vehicles.
The driver of the Hyundai suffered life-threatening injuries and was pried out of the wrecked vehicle by firemen on the scene. She was put in an ambulance for transport to the hospital. After two surgeries and a facial reconstruction procedure, she is said to till be in a critical condition.
The driver of the Ford truck was not hurt in the crash. He was taken in by the police for questioning. Police found a bottle of whisky in the glove compartment of his truck after the crash. Test results also returned a blood alcohol level beyond the legal limit.
The driver will be facing a numerous charges including reckless endangerment and driving under the influence among other charges.
