A Vero Beach resident, 16, was injured following a car accident involving three vehicles in Indian River County.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened at the intersection of 27th Avenue SW and 13th Street SW. FHP said the teen was driving a Ford Mustang northbound on County Road 607 approaching 13th Street SW. At the same time, a Mazda 626 was traveling northbound on County Road 607 approaching 13th Street SW. The teen was directly behind the Mazda.
A third vehicle, a Dodge Ram, was traveling southbound on County Road 607 approaching 13th Street SW. FHP said the Mazda slowed down for traffic ahead. The driver of the Mustang failed to slow down and swerved to the left. The front right of her car collided with the rear left of the Mazda. The car traveled north into the southbound lane colliding with the Dodge. The Mustang overturned and the teen suffered head injuries at the scene.
First emergency responders arrived shortly after the crash and the victim was transported to the hospital.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. No one else was hurt in the wreck, but the report says charges are pending.
