A two-vehicle crash on the southbound lanes of Florida’s Turnpike sent a Fort Pierce man to the hospital, authorities said. The crash was occurred before Okeechobee Road in Ft. Pierce.
The crash had traffic at a standstill heading toward Martin and Palm Beach Counties. Three lanes were blocked in the southbound lanes until the wreck could be cleared. Traffic was restored shortly after the scene was cleared.
A witness said the wreck involved a car and semi. The crash occurred near Okeechobee Road in Ft. Pierce, closing multiple lanes and scattering debris across the road.
First emergency responders arrived shortly after the crash happened. The driver of the car was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. The cause of the wreck has not been released.
The vehicle crash has also slowed traffic in Fort Pierce. Some drivers could be seen exiting I-95 via alternative exit routes. Others are seen pulling over to the roadside to allow crews work. It is best to avoid this route and make use of alternative routes.
