A 36-year-old Palm Springs man had been arrested after he allegedly struck and killed a pedestrian, identified as George Dietel, with his truck while he was under the influence, according to village police.
The driver refused requests to submit to a blood test following the crash incident on Forest Hill Boulevard west of the Congress Avenue, Palm Springs police said.
“I’m a little miffed they did not take blood forcibly on a manslaughter case,” A judge had said during a bond hearing for the driver at the Palm Beach County Jail.
The driver’s bail was set at $150,000 on one count of a DUI manslaughter. He could also be put on house arrest, the judge said.
The incident had occurred at dusk. According to an arrest report, the driver had struck George Dietel while he crossed the street in an area without using a crosswalk. Dietel had sustained head injuries and was confirmed dead about an hour after the crash, according to police report.
Police have not released any further details. The investigation is still ongoing.
