A child and an elderly woman were critically injured when they were struck by vehicles in separate parts of Palm Beach County, Federal Highway Patrol said.
In the first incident, an 88-year-old woman was struck by a tractor-trailer in Delray, Florida Highway Patrol authorities said.
The woman was attempting to cross the street at the intersection of Eastbound and Westbound streets when the large truck struck her as it was making a turn.
The woman suffered a severe leg injury and was taken to Delray Medical Center in a critical condition.
The truck driver remained on the scene and has not been charged with a crime yet.
Later in the day, a 13-year-old boy was also critically injured when he was struck by a vehicle in another area of the Palm Beach County.
The child was walking across the intersection of W. 135th St. and Fifth Avenue when he was hit, Florida Highway Patrol said.
The driver in that incident also remained on scene and has not been charged, Florida Highway Patrol said.
Police said both crashes are still under investigation.
