SUV Hits Bus, Runs Over Pedestrians On Indian River County Sidewalk

A cab driver lost control of his vehicle, rear-ended a city bus, jumped the curb and collided with pedestrians injuring a dozen people, Florida Highway Patrol officials said.

The 58-year-old driver was on 125th Street near South Beach in Indian River County when he rammed his 2007 black Cadillac Escalade into the M60 bus that was leaving a bus stop, according to the police and Florida Highway Patrol officials.

The impact sent the SUV over the curb where it struck a 53-year-old woman and a 45-year-old man on the sidewalk, Florida Highway Patrol said.

A 48-year-old woman who was riding in the back seat of the SUV sustained minor injuries, police said.

The driver and the male pedestrian were taken to Delray Medical Center with minor injuries.

The female pedestrian and two bus passengers were taken to another hospital in the Indian River County, also with minor injuries.

It was not immediately clear what had caused the crash.

An FHP spokeswoman said a total of 12 people were hurt in the accident.

Among the 12 were two police officers on the scene. One refused medical attention and the other went to a hospital in the Indian River County with minor injuries, according to the spokeswoman. Police could not confirm the injuries.
